Joining

Joining the Arkham Society is an easy process. Membership is totally free and greatly encouraged.

Handles:

All members have a "handle" or screenname that is used while on the site. It basically serves as your persona while you are here. This handle is the name of whichever Batman villain you choose. To keep the atmosphere of the site, the only handles that are accepted are Batman villains. Also, the handle cannot be a variation of a character already in use by a current member. So that means a new member cannot join as "Joker2", "Mr. J.", or "Jack Napier" since "The Joker" is already in use (by yours truly) All handles are given on a first come basis. If you aren't sure if your desired handle is available, check the list of Current Members. If you can't think of a villain for your handle, check out this list of suggestions. Please note its constantly being updated, as I continue to look for unlisted villains from the comics and show.

Also feel free to check out the Cell Block for possible suggestions or for information about a given character. Any villain that has been seen (no matter how briefly) in the comics, on the animated series, or in the movies is fair game for handles.

Fan-made Characters:

I realize that many fans have created their own characters which live through sites, messages boards, and fan fics. For the most part it is encouraged to join as a canon character, that is, a character used in the mainstream via comic, movie, or TV show.

In rare cases fan-created characters will be admitted, but the admission criteria is a bit stricter. To apply as a fan-made character you must submit a detailed biography of the character. This is done to ensure that the handle has a thorough enough background for the site. Also, it helps if the character has a picture. Also, as the handles of canon characters become more scarce, more fan-created characters are admitted.

A Note on Canon:

Obviously there are differences in behavior, origin, appearance, and activity among characters who exist in both the comics, the cartoons, the TV shows, and the movies. In cases where a character appears in two or more mediums, the comic is always trump. That is, if you join as Two-Face, you'd be expected to follow the continuity and behavior of Two-Face from the comic, not the movie or cartoon.

Playing in Character:

Once admitted as a member, all posts and chatting done on the site should use your handle. To add to the atmosphere, it is generally expected for you to post "in character," that is, in the voice and mood of your handle. While this is not neccessarily an RPG site, posting "in character" just makes the member's section more fun.

The Member's Section:

Okay, enough random technical stuff, now its time to tell you what you get when you join. As soon as you're accepted, you'll get the password for the member's section via e-mail. (Please don't give out the password to non-members, that's tacky) You can start posting immediately. As a member, you get access to the Chat room (Which sometimes has special, top secret guests from DC Comics) the Member's message board, the Member's Guest Book, and the ability to post in the Arkham Blog. If you have a website, it will be listed in the top section under "Member's Sites".

Rules:

Sadly, rules are needed, even in the midst of insanity. For the most part, they are common sense.

1) Be polite and courteous to all members. That means no flaming people on the boards.

2) Only post as yourself, no using other people's handles.

3) Try to post at least once a week. If you haven't posted in a month, you'll recieve an e-mail asking you to renew your membership.
